A coalition of medical professional organizations are urging Vice President Kamala Harris to protect physicians’ right to practice medicine based on their conscience beliefs.
The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine (AHM), which represents over 30,000 physicians, argues in a letter that doctors, no matter the stage in their careers, face ongoing pressure from “several major medical organizations” to participate in performing abortions, euthanasia or gender mutilation procedures. Harris has outwardly expressed pro-abortion views and flip-flopped her stance on supporting sex change surgeries.
“In our pluralistic nation filled with professionals of all faiths and values, it is important that leaders protect everyone’s ability to practice in accordance with their conscience,” the letter reads. “Forcing medical professionals of faith to kill human beings in the womb destroys the very ethic that caused medical professionals to go into the practice of OB-GYN: to care for the lives of both the mother and the human being in her womb. Forcing medical professionals to destroy healthy well-functioning bodies in childhood and creates lifelong dependency on trans hormones is doing great harm, in violation of our oath to first do no harm to our patients.”
For doctors who care and are competent, “trampling” on the right to act according to one’s conscience hurts livelihoods, careers and patients, AHM argues. When a doctor is forced to act against his or her conscience, it not only affects the professional, but the patient as well.
The Biden-Harris administration claims to oppose sex change surgeries, despite backing challenges to state bans and collaborating with the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) — a top authority in the gender medicine field — to further the practice.

After Roe v. Wade was overturned, the administration prosecuted pro-life individuals who protested at abortion clinics but did not give the same punishment for pro-abortion activists who vandalized pregnancy centers and churches.
AHM expressed dismay in the letter over Harris’ response in an interview with NBC News, stating she does not think there should be religious exemptions for abortions.
“As physicians who have devoted our lives to our patients and our profession, we urge you to affirm your support for the conscience rights of medical professionals and commit to protecting these rights by preserving and enforcing existing legal protections,” the letter continues.
The Harris Campaign did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
