Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza said Wednesday he does not believe Democrats have any positive takeaways from Tuesday’s election.

Former President Donald Trump decisively defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, Republicans secured a Senate majority and the GOP may gain control of the House, according to The Associated Press. Cillizza, on his YouTube channel, noted Republicans appear to have exceeded expectations in this election.

WATCH:

“Donald Trump is the next president of the United States. Right now he stands at 277 electoral votes. I think he will go to 312 electoral votes because I think he’s going to win Michigan, which has not been called. I think he’s going to win Nevada, Arizona and Alaska. Those haven’t been called and I think he will win those,” Cillizza said. “So, 312 electoral votes — that is more than he won in 2016. Even more striking, I think Donald Trump is going to win or looks likely at this point to win the popular vote, which I think no one thought would happen … This is a sweeping victory. This is an absolute mandate for Donald Trump.”

“Republicans are going to control the Senate as well. The only question is by how many, but they picked up West Virginia, Montana, and Ohio — that’s three. Democrats won’t pick up any Republican seats, so Republicans will have at least a two-seat majority,” he added. “They may have a three-, four- or five-seat majority depending on how races in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Arizona play out.”

Cillizza also noted Trump gained significant ground with Hispanic men and young voters.

“What that tells me is that the coalitions are realigning. Hispanics are no longer a reliable Democratic vote, particularly Hispanic men,” he said. “Young people are no longer a reliable Democratic vote, particularly young men. Donald Trump has remade not just the Republican Party but also the coalitions that elect these two parties.”

“There is no bright light that I can see for Democrats today as they sort of wake up and try to dig out from this. Trump won more convincingly, I think, than anyone thought he would, maybe outside of his campaign,” Cillizza continued. “Again, popular vote victory and an Electoral College victory. He helped bring Republicans into the Senate majority. The House remains very much a tossup, but the smart analysts I’ve seen say it leans slightly toward Republicans. So you could very well be looking at full Republican control for at least two years — control of the White House, the Senate and the House. And that, to me, was not a likely outcome when we went into the night.”

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said Wednesday that Democrats must now reassess whether they lost touch with American voters in light of Trump defeating Harris.

“It’s time for the Democrats to take a good, long, hard look at how this happened and if they just say Trump bad, Democrats virtuous, they’re gonna keep losing, cause this, again this is so widespread,” he said. “This is not about just Donald Trump, this is about the Democratic Party and being radically disconnected from the rest of the country. Look at the map.”
