Michigan Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin will become the next senator from Michigan after defeating former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers.

The Associated Press has called the race as of 3:12 p.m. EST on Nov. 6, with Slotkin at 48.6% of the vote and Rogers at 48.3%.

Rogers has conceded the election to Slotkin, telling supporters, “I am humbled and honored for the millions of Michiganders who embraced our campaign, shared their thoughts, their concerns, their ideas, and put their faith and trust in me to serve our great state as their U.S. Senator.”

Slotkin and Rogers were running to succeed Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who has served as a U.S. senator since January 2001 and was the first woman to be elected to the senate from the Great Lakes state.

Rogers served in the Michigan state Senate from 1995 to 2000 before being elected a U.S. congressman representing the eighth district. He retired from the House of Representatives in 2015 after chairing the Intelligence Committee, before winning the Republican Senate primary in August after receiving the endorsement of former President Donald Trump in March.

Slotkin is a former national security official who has represented Michigan’s seventh district since 2019.

The incumbent-free race was the fifth most costly of the 2024 Senate election cycle, totaling nearly $190 million in spending. Slotkin held a significant fundraising edge over Rogers, raising roughly $18 million more as of Oct. 16.

Rogers was a target of a nearly $80 million attack ad blitz launched by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in August, along with fellow Republican Senate candidates Kari Lake in Arizona, Eric Hovde in Wisconsin and Dave McCormick in Pennsylvania.
