Ex-Harris Spox Shocks CNN Panel After Suggesting Biden Resign to Make Harris President

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 11: Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, and U.S. President Joe Biden, join family and friends at Ground Zero honoring the lives of those lost on the 23rd anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2024 in New York City. Biden and Harris will also attend ceremonies at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pa, and the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., making visits to all three sites of the terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. President Joe Biden leaves the Oval Office on Jan. 20, but at least one person thinks that’s plenty of time to squeeze a presidency for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Jamal Simmons, Harris’ former communications director, suggested Biden step down and make way for the first female president to take over, per Mediaite.

Simmons floated the idea Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” as a panel discussed Trump’s transition to the presidency.

“Joe Biden’s been a phenomenal president, he’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made,” Simmons said. “There’s one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure. He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris president of the United States — ”

To say the panel was surprised by this notion appeared to be an understatement as Scott Jennings, conservative commentator, yelled, “Woah,” as host Dana Bash exclaimed, “Wow!”

Simmons didn’t stop there.

“It would absolve her from having to oversee the January 6th transition, right, of her own defeat,” Simmons added. “And it would make sure, it would dominate the news, at a point where Democrats have to learn, drama and transparency and doing things the public want to see — this is the time, this is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate.”

Bash responded by saying, “This has now jumped from an internet meme to a Sunday morning show.”

Jennings also quipped, “Jamal’s out here writing a season of ‘House of Cards’” referring to the political thriller on Netflix.

When Bash asked Simmons about the possibility of Harris being nominated to the Supreme Court, he reiterated the rhetoric of Harris becoming president before Trump.

“This is something within Joe Biden‘s control. If he did it, it would, again, fulfill his last promise and give Kamala Harris a chance to be the 47th President of the United States of America. It would disrupt all of Donald Trump‘s paraphernalia, right? He‘d have to rebrand everything. And make it easier for the next woman president not have to hold all that weight of being the first,” Simmons said, per Fox News.

Simmons also posted his idea on X, formerly Twitter.

“Joe Biden has been amazing but he should fulfill one last promise – to be transitional. Biden should resign and make Kamala Harris the first woman president,” he wrote in one post. “It’d turn tables on Trump, keep Kamala from presiding over Jan 6  make it easier for next woman to run. #trailblazepodcast.”

He added a second post.

“Dems have better policies but we must realize the old rules no longer apply. We are not playing table tennis,” Simmons wrote. “We are in a mixed martial arts fight and Americans respond to drama and excitement. We should use that to make our arguments for a better path forward.”
