During her podcast Tuesday, SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly, along with guests Mark Halperin and Dan Turrentine, called out corporate media pundits like Katie Couric for attempting to appeal to supporters of President-elect Donald Trump following his win against Vice President Kamala Harris.
On Monday morning, MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski revealed to their viewers that they had met with Trump, despite having repeatedly likened the former president to Adolf Hitler. They also alleged he would become a fascist dictator. On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kelly played a recent clip of Couric telling MSNBC’s Jen Psaki that she had been frustrated by Harris’ interview answers, as well as another clip in which Couric called out Trump supporters to HBO talk-show host Bill Maher.
“The nerve, Dan, like, ‘They’re anti-intellectual.’ Now she’s like, ‘I really wish people had just paid more attention to them.’ She’s like, ‘Oh, now she’s at Kamala Harris with her word salad answer,’” Kelly said. “She endorsed Kamala Harris. She openly endorsed Kamala, like, OK. I don’t remember you being honest about her word salad.”
Kelly continued with another observation.
“Some of us endorsed candidates and also were able to be honest about their problem areas. That is what happened. Like, if you want to go into opinion journalism, you must continue to thread that needle or you should just declare your connection to journalism totally dead,” Kelly added.
Turrentine, a Democratic strategist, then jumped in to call out his party’s response after he began speaking out against both President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris as the party’s presidential nominees.
“This one hits home for me because this was a tough last year for me as I started speaking out more kind of in the media as I joined the morning meeting. I got a lot of feedback from Democratic friends when I started speaking out,” Turrentine said. “The number of Democrats on the Harris and Biden campaigns at the DNC and just in general, who sent letters or emails and texts saying like, ‘You’re not being helpful.’ Like, ‘What are you doing speaking honestly like this?’ I just said, ‘Look guys, if you have data that shows I’m wrong, like I will trumpet it anywhere and everywhere, but everything I’m seeing is that she is struggling and Biden was struggling.’”

“It was obvious for all to see her weaknesses and frankly, the party’s weaknesses. But there was such a collective, if we give an inch, it’s helping Trump and we can’t dare do anything that doesn’t prop her up to the point where I used to joke with people. ‘Do you want me to be Baghdad Bob and say the sun rises in the west every day?’” Turrentine asked.
Kelly continued to highlight some of Couric’s story titles, noting that despite the criticism and claims against Trump prior to the election results, media outlets like ABC are reportedly searching for a conservative voice.
“Katie Couric now, who’s having the come to Jesus moment. Here are some of her show names prior to the election: ‘Gwen Walls on why this is the most important election of our lifetime. Why Donald Trump is a fascist and what that means. All about abortion and what’s at stake in the 2024 election. How to save democracy with Jon Favreau and Tommy Vietor of Pod Save America,’ left-leaning Obama guys,” Kelly said.
“So hashtag part of the problem, Katie. You might try having on a Republican or somebody who actually does understand Trump,” Kelly said. “Even now, Mark, the solution over on places like ABC where you used to work is, ‘Oh my God, we gotta find an actual Trump supporter and put them into the seventh chair on ‘The View.” That’ll do it. Talk about like a band-aid on a cancer.”
Halperin later joined the conversation, stating that while he was glad Trump won the popular vote “because it takes away the Democrats blaming not Kamala Harris, but the Electoral College,” he noted that corporate media can’t make a complete “180” after labeling Trump as a fascist or Hitler.
Weeks before Election Day, corporate media and Harris’ campaign appeared to ramp up their rhetoric against the former president, with Biden calling to “lock him up” before quickly clarifying that he meant “politically.”
