Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is keeping those interested abreast of what is happening in the federal government.

Clinton took to X, formerly Twitter, to provide a bleak update.

“If you’re just catching up: the Republican Party, taking orders from the world’s richest man, is on course to shut down the government over the holidays, stopping paychecks for our troops and nutrition benefits for low-income families just in time for Christmas,” Clinton posted.

Clinton’s message, including mentioning Elon Musk, came out before the House turned down  Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) new stopgap funding bill Thursday evening.

The bill was shot down with a 233-174 vote that included 38 Republicans voting against it, according to the Daily Caller.

Those who voted against it did so because it increased the debt ceiling without cutting spending.

“You never have any ounce of self respect. Go out and campaign, say you’re gonna balance the budget, and then you come in here, pass $110 billion unpaid for,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said during a floor debate.

“It’s embarrassing. It’s shameful. […] To take this bill yesterday and congratulate yourself because it’s shorter in pages but increases the debt by $5 trillion is asinine,” he added.

“I am absolutely sickened by a party that campaigns on ‘fiscal responsibility’ […] This side of the aisle is unserious about actually reducing deficits,” Roy said.

“The entire body has been racking up debt for my entire life. $36 trillion,” he concluded.
