Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was put on the defensive after he was questioned about whether or not he misled the American public on President Joe Biden’s mental acuity.
According to a report from Mediaite, during an interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker, Schumer was asked if he and other top Democrats “misled” Americans about Biden’s mental state and his ability to carry out his duties as president.
Welker shared a clip of Schumer during a press conference in 2024, calling questions over Biden’s mental capacity “right-wing propaganda.”
“I talk to President Biden, you know, regularly. Sometimes several times in a week, usually several times in a week. His mental acuity is great, its fine, it’s as good as it’s been over the years,” Schumer told reporters in 2024. “All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity is declined is wrong.”
“What do you say to Americans who feel as though you and other top Democrats misled them about President Biden’s mental acuity?” Welker asked.
Schumer then appeared to get defensive over the question, and insisted Biden is a “great guy” and Americans should “salute him.”
“Look, we didn’t. Let’s look at President Biden. He’s had an amazing record,” Schumer said. “The legislation we passed, one of the most significant groups of legislation since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, putting in 235 judges a record, and he’s a patriot. He’s a great guy, and when he stepped down, he did it on his own because he thought it was better not only for the Democratic Party, or America. We should all salute him.”

Past gaffes from Biden have been around since he took office. In a clip from 2022, signs of Biden’s declining mental state and forgetfulness were on display, after it appeared Biden had forgotten he had already shaken Schumer’s hand and continued to stand with his hand out.
In another 2022 video from the Telegraph, Biden appears confused after delivering a speech, shaking hands with thin air, then appearing to not know what way he should go to get off stage.
