U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) told church goers over the weekend that the U.S. needs illegal immigration because “we done picking cotton.”

According to Fox News, Crockett is a member of “the squad,” a group of left-leaning lawmakers that includes New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

Crockett reportedly made the remarks in Connecticut at a historically black Grace Baptist Church celebrating its 125th anniversary.

“So, I had to go around the country and educate people about what immigrants do for this country, or the fact that we are a country of immigrants. The fact is ain’t none of y’all trying to go and farm right now,” Crockett said to a reportedly quiet audience.

“OK, so I’m lying?” Crockett said. “You’re not! You’re not! We done picking cotton! We are. You can’t pay us enough to find a plantation.”

This isn’t the first time Crockett has made controversial remarks, calling Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who is confined to a wheelchair due to being paralyzed, “Governor Hot Wheels,” and often says the governor is “rolling places.”

“Rolling up to the White House to cheer on the president destroying the agency that makes sure kids in wheelchairs have equal access to education is wild,” Crockett reportedly wrote in a social media post.

The Texas lawmaker has also made snide remarks about her fellow members of Congress, saying Texas Republican Ted Cruz should be “knocked over the head,” and further stated that “all I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down,” referring to Tesla CEO Elon Musk after he and Tesla owners had been the subject of recent violent attacks.

Crockett also took aim at Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds and his marriage to a white woman, reportedly telling “The Breakfast Club” in June Donalds doesn’t “understand history.”

“The fact that you’re sitting around talking about ‘life was better under Jim Crow,’ like, is this because you don’t understand history? Or literally it’s because you married a White woman and so you think that whitewashed you?” Crockett said.

“I feel like they give [Donalds] his talking points and he’s like, ‘Yes, massa. I got it,'” Crockett added.
