Former Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz told Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk that transgender women will soon be the Democrat Party’s “most masculine” constituency in a discussion aired Tuesday.

Struggling to find a single leader and message to get behind, Democrats have significantly dipped in their favorability polls for their party and among congressional lawmakers. While at a TPUSA conference in San Diego, California, Kirk asked Gaetz for his views on the state of the Democrat Party and what Republicans can learn since winning the election.

“I have some impolitic views on this. I believe that the most — Well, who’s left in the Democratic Party are like the beta males, the unsuccessful males, the angry pitbull-adopting lesbians and then the transsexuals,” Gaetz said. “So I believe that the trans women will very soon be the most masculine force in the Democratic Party.”

“Because who are you? I see several of you nodding. Like, who do you think is going to be the most masculine force in the Democratic Party, the beta males or the trans women? I think the trans women are probably going to kind of take over that,” Gaetz added.

In March, a CNN/SSRS poll showed the Democrat Party hitting its lowest favorability rating at just 29%, dropping 20 points since January 2021. Among respondents, over 30% were unable to write in a Democrat leader they felt “best reflects the core values” of the party.

Appeal for congressional Democrats has also dropped among young voters, according to a Harvard Youth Poll, dipping to 23% as of April compared to 42% in spring 2017.

“You wonder how all of this broke out in the election. President Trump was able to overcome a gender gap with women by having a larger gender gap with men. So the coalition on the Republican side was like the non-self-loathing males,” Gaetz continued. “And of any color, stripe, creed, I mean, we had like the cool black guys and the cool Latino guys.”

Post-election exit polls showed President Donald Trump made significant strides among voting blocs that Democrats once had a stronghold on, such as Hispanic and black men. Trump not only gained 14 points among Hispanics nationally since 2020 but also saw gains among black men in swing states like North Carolina, according to Reuters.

During the election, former Vice President Kamala Harris attempted to appeal to male voters in a 90-second video, showing a group of men repeatedly declaring they were “man enough” to support women’s rights and not be “afraid of women.” Since the loss, Democrats have begun to pivot from the previous tactics, with lawmakers like Democrat like Maryland Gov. Wes Moore vowing to direct his “entire administration” to aid struggling boys and men, according to NBC News.

However, 52% of men still identify with the Republican Party, while Democrats trail behind at 46%, according to a Pew Research study released in April.

Gaetz went on to state how Republicans, in addition to growing their base among black and Latino men, are also seeing support from gay males, who are “pretty much with us for the most part.”

“Then you added — I think women, you could divide into like desirable women and undesirable women,” Gaetz said. “The Democrats killed us with undesirable women. I mean, they struggled.”

“But if you were like cool and a woman, you looked around and you’re like, ‘Well, who do I want to hang out with?’ Like the cool alpha males and the cool black guys and the gay men or the pitbull-adopting lesbians and the transsexuals? We got the desirable women, and I would like to keep them,” Gaetz said.

In an attempt to make a change for the base, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chairman David Hogg announced in April that he plans to help unseat certain Democrat members of Congress in the 2026 primaries, spending millions to support younger candidates. However, party loyalists like Democrat strategist James Carville and DNC’s Chair Ken Martin have pushed back on the move, calling out Hogg’s attacks against fellow party members.

Despite the internal party turmoil, speculation has begun that Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom could be eyeing a bid for the 2028 presidential run.
