Users of TikTok can now mark Sept. 17 on their calendars.

That is because President Donald Trump signed on executive order to extend the deadline ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to sell the video app to an American owner by another 90 days, per The Hill.

The previous deadline was Thursday.

Trump announced the move on social media.

“I’ve just signed the Executive Order extending the Deadline for the TikTok closing for 90 days (September 17, 2025). Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote on X.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt hinted to the order earlier this week when she said Trump “does not want TikTok to go dark.”

“This extension will last 90 days, which the Administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure,” Leavitt said in a statement Tuesday.

Trump himself hinted at the extension earlier this week.

Trump also said a deadline extension was probable.

“Probably have to get China approval, but I think we’ll get it,” Trump said. “I think President Xi [Jinping] will ultimately approve it.”

This is the third extension since January when Trump took office.

President Joe Biden signed the law last year, which requires ByteDance to leave the platform or face a ban on U.S. networks and app stores
