Trump Administration Embraces ‘Daddy’ Nickname For Trump

THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS - JUNE 25: U.S. President Donald Trump (R) and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte speak to media at the start of the second day of the 2025 NATO Summit on June 25, 2025 in The Hague, Netherlands. Among other matters, members are to approve a new defense investment plan that raises the target for defense spending to 5% of GDP. (Photo by Andrew Harnik/Getty Images)

When NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte called President Donald Trump “Daddy,” he opened a can of worms much to many people’s amusement.

That includes White House staffers, who released a video, set to the song “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” by Usher, that shared highlights of Trump’s trip to the NATO summit in Netherlands, per The Hill.

Rutte referred to Trump as “Daddy” during a news conference earlier this week. Trump had said Israel and Iran “don’t know what the f— they’re doing.”

Rutte responded with, “Daddy has to sometimes use strong language.”

The NATO official later said his comment was in jest.

“The daddy thing, I didn’t call him ‘daddy,’” Rutte said.

“What I said is that sometimes, in Europe, I hear sometimes countries saying, ‘Hey, Mark, will the U.S. stay with us?’ And I said that sounds a little bit like a small child asking his daddy, ‘Hey, are you still staying with the family?’ So in that sense, I used ‘daddy’ — not that I was calling President Trump daddy,” Rutte added.

Trump later commented, saying, “He did it very affectionately though, ‘Daddy, you’re my daddy,’” Trump said, much to the amusement of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who laughed behind Trump.

🚨 LMAO! Marco Rubio absolutely LOST his composure in the background as Trump is asked about NATO Secretary General calling him "daddy." 🤣

REPORTER: "Mark Rutte, the NATO Chief, he called you 'daddy' earlier…Do you regard your NATO allies as children?"

RUBIO: 🤣🤣🤣

However, not everyone found the video amusing.

Who does this appeal to?

This whole “daddy” thing with Trump is bizarre.

I say that as a Trump supporter.

This is humiliating. The White House is now openly mocking Western European leaders. They’re not allies anymore — they’re props. And the punchline? They’re still paying for the stage.

Daddy? They call him Daddy?!

— Wren (@wrens_dens) June 26, 2025

Nothing says presidential dignity like the official White House account cosplaying as a thirsty fan page
