The next stop for President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” appears to be court.

The Second Amendment is the focus of this lawsuit, per a report in The Hill. The bill includes 887 pages that deal with firearms. In particular, the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) tax on the manufacture and transfer of firearm silencers, short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns was eliminated.

Gun rights groups believe the bill “dissolved the NFA’s constitutional foundation.” The National Rifle Association calls the bill the “biggest blow” to the NFA.

Gun enthusiasts want to put an end to the NFA’s requirements. This includes fingerprinting and undergoing a background check for the untaxed firearms.

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to dismantle one of the most abusive federal gun control laws on the books,” said Erich Pratt, senior vice president at Gun Owners of America. “With the tax struck down by Congress, the rest of the NFA is standing on air. We’re ready to take this fight to the courts and finally end the federal registry once and for all.”

The lawsuit was filed in the San Angelo division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. U.S. District Judge Wes Hendrix is a Trump appointee.

On Monday, a judge temporarily stopped Medicaid cuts to Planned Parenthood’s health centers.

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani has been scrutinized for the ruling.

“We have the best judicial system in the world, but it’s run by fallible, mortal humans. People make mistakes,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) posted on X.

9. We have the best judicial system in the world, but it’s run by fallible, mortal humans. People make mistakes. But unless I’m missing something here, this wasn’t an honest mistake. This was a pretty egregious judicial usurpation of legislative power.

“But unless I’m missing something here, this wasn’t an honest mistake. This was a pretty egregious judicial usurpation of legislative power,” he wrote. He suggested the House try to impeach the judge, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama.

A hearing on the matter will be held July 21.
