President Donald Trump reacted to the news of a fatal shooting in Midtown Manhattan by calling the gunman a “crazed lunatic.”
A statement was posted on social media where the president also voiced his support for law enforcement, Mediaite reported.
“I have been briefed on the tragic shooting that took place in Manhattan, a place that I know and love,” Trump said in the statement. “I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence.”
He then expressed his condolences to the victims’ families — and called NYPD officer Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh and father of two, as someone “who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
“My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD Officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless the New York Police Department, and God Bless New York!”
The gunman, Shane Devon Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, walked into 345 Park Ave., and opened fire, using an AR-15-style rifle Monday night.
Four poeople died as well as the gunman who took his own life.
