Radio host Charlamagne Tha God sparred with a male caller on Monday who said that President Donald Trump’s second term has been successful thus far.

After Charlamagne criticized Trump’s second-term record on his daughter-in-law Lara Trump’s Fox News show “My View” on Saturday, the president took to Truth Social to attack the radio host, accusing him of being a “low IQ individual.” The caller said on “The Breakfast Club” that Trump was keeping his campaign promises and moving the country “in a positive direction,” but Charlamagne disagreed.

WATCH:

“I feel like this is one of the first presidents that’s actually doing what they said they was going to do,” the caller said. “Like, most people go on their campaign trail — ‘I’mma do this, I’mma do this, I’mma do this’ — and they get in office and they don’t do none of that. Like, he doing everything he said he was going to do … I feel like it’s right for the country.”

Charlamagne pushed back, noting that Trump made ambitious promises to bring costs down on his first day back in office.

“[C]learly people aren’t feeling that relief yet in their pockets,” the radio host claimed.

“[E]verybody know in your right mind there’s no way somebody could do something instantly. But in terms of what has happened within this year, it’s crazy,” the caller retorted. “Like, it’s no way that you could see the last four years and how garbage it was and then look at just this first half of the year and think stuff is not going in a positive direction.”

The caller conceded that Charlamagne was right about Trump’s day-one promises.

“You’re right — he didn’t do all of these things instantly. But I feel like everything is going in the right direction as planned,” he said. “Did you talk about the European deal? Did you talk about stuff that is happening in a positive direction?”

The caller added he has never identified as a Republican and was raised to be a Democrat in Detroit. He continued that as he’s gotten older and observed the Democratic Party, he cannot associate himself with the Democrats.

Charlamagne criticized Trump’s trade deal with the European Union because it imposes 15% tariffs on the EU.

“The crazy thing about the European deal — the tariff last year was like 1.5%,” the radio host said. “Now it’s 15. So how does increased tariffs help us?”

The caller asked Chalamagne if he believed it was right for other nations to impose tariffs on the U.S., while the U.S. does not levy tariffs on them.

“I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I have a low IQ,” Charlamagne quipped.

“So, other countries have been putting tariffs on our country, but we have been giving people no tariffs,” the caller explained. “This is the first time since the ’30s that we’re actually bringing in billions of dollars from tariffs.”

The U.S. government ran a $27 billion budget surplus in June, partially driven by record tariff revenue, according to Treasury Department data.

However, Charlamagne argued that Americans pay for the tariffs on other countries, which the caller disagreed with.

“No, that’s not true either,” the caller said.

Charlamagne accused the caller of not being “honest,” but he said he was, asserting businesses are not passing costs along to consumers.

Despite Trump’s tariffs, inflation has not spiked severely. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.7% year-over-year in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics on July 15.
