A California woman was found dead in the Angeles National Forest just one day after home security footage showed her husband dragging something large wrapped in a tarp-like material away from their home. Authorities now say that the object he was seen moving may have been his wife’s body.
Thirty-three-year-old Sheylla Cabrera was discovered on August 13, her body wrapped in what appeared to be a tarp or sheet—matching the same material caught on a neighbor’s Ring camera, according to local reports from KTTV and KTLA.
Search and rescue teams from Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue were combing the Angeles National Forest when they spotted something that looked similar to what was seen in the video footage. When deputies arrived on the scene, they confirmed that the object was in fact a body—later identified as Sheylla Cabrera—wrapped in the same type of material seen in the surveillance video.
Her husband, 36-year-old Jossimar Cabrera, was quickly named a person of interest in the case. Just before the discovery of Sheylla’s body, he had already fled the country.
Authorities say he traveled to Peru, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is now working with Peruvian officials to extradite him back to California. Investigators say they plan to charge him with murder if he is returned to the U.S.
The couple’s three children were also unaccounted for during the initial search. However, all three were later located in Peru and placed into protective custody, according to law enforcement officials.

Jossimar Cabrera claimed that his missing wife, Sheylla Guitierrez, was detained by ICE. However, surveillance footage of Jossimar’s home shows him dragging around a body-sized bag.
Police later found his wife’s body in the woods.

Investigators have not yet released a cause of death. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently conducting an autopsy to determine how Sheylla died. Authorities have not confirmed how long she may have been in the forest before she was discovered.
The chilling details of the case have drawn national attention, in part because of the Ring camera footage, which appears to show Jossimar Cabrera dragging what looks like a body-shaped bundle across a driveway, wrapped in a dark covering. The timing of the footage—recorded just one day before Sheylla’s body was found—has raised serious questions about how long he may have been planning to leave the country and what steps he took before fleeing.
Detectives say they are reviewing additional evidence from the couple’s home and the surrounding area. Neighbors who saw the surveillance video shared it with investigators and have reportedly been interviewed by police.
So far, no formal charges have been filed, but law enforcement sources say they are building a case against Jossimar Cabrera. His extradition process could take several weeks, depending on the legal steps required in Peru.
The community has expressed shock over the unfolding case, especially after learning that the children were taken across international borders. It’s still unclear how the children were moved or whether they traveled with their father.
