Russia launched a series of airstrikes into Kyiv, Ukraine, early Thursday that hit buildings housing European diplomats, Politico reported Thursday.

The strike killed at least 12 people overall, while dealing structural damage to housing blocks hosting the European Union and British delegations, according to Politico. There are no reported injuries or deaths among the delegation’s staff, with one official describing the attack as a “massive” barrage of drones.

“The attacks are completely unacceptable. In no way will they shake our support for Ukraine,” Commission spokesperson Arianna Podestà said Thursday according to Politico.

President Donald Trump has been attempting to bring peace between Russia and Ukraine in recent months, culminating at a fateful meeting in Anchorage between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the interim since the meeting, Trump has voiced immense frustration at Putin’s continued bombardment of Ukraine during ongoing peace talks.

Trump has previously threatened sanctions and tariffs against Moscow if Putin continues to refuse peace negotiations, but Russia has remained steadfast in its positions.

Ukraine has been insistent that any peace deal with Russia must include security guarantees from the West, while Putin has expressed willingness to stop the fighting if Russia takes control of the majority-Russian Donbas region.

Meanwhile on the front, Ukraine has admitted that Russian forces have advanced into the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine for the first time, which formerly hosted much of Ukraine’s industrial infrastructure. While Russia has not claimed the region formally in peace demands, such a loss on the ground could prove to be detrimental to Ukrainian morale.

The Russian Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
