Google, YouTube’s parent company, will give video creators who were previously banned for violating political speech guidelines a chance to return to the platform, the company announced Tuesday.

In a letter to the House Judiciary Committee dated Sept. 23, Alphabet, Google’s holding company, acknowledged that it terminated YouTube channels for violating its guidelines on election integrity and COVID-19-related content. The company also disclosed that Biden administration officials repeatedly “pressed” it to remove content that did not violate company policy, but was deemed by the administration to be “misinformation.”

“YouTube will provide an opportunity for all creators to rejoin the platform if the Company terminates their channels for repeated violations of COVID-19 and election integrity policies that are no longer in effect,” Daniel Donovan, counsel for Alphabet, wrote in the letter.

“Senior Biden Administration officials, including White House officials, conducted repeated and sustained outreach to Alphabet and pressed the Company regarding certain user-generated content related to the COVID-19 pandemic that did not violate its policies,” Donovan continued. “It is unacceptable and wrong when any government, including the Biden Administration, attempts to dictate how the Company moderates content,” he wrote, adding that the company “fought against” those efforts.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL.

Before December 2024, YouTube had several policies that limited discussions of COVID-19, including various treatments, according to the letter. YouTube announced in June 2023 that it would reverse a December 2020 policy that removed content that “misleads people by alleging that widespread fraud or errors changed the outcome of the 2020 U.S. Presidential election.”

During the Biden-Harris years, under White House pressure, YouTube changed its policies to censor political debate on COVID and elections.

Should YouTube allow creators banned for political speech to return?

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sued Google in August 2023 after his videos were repeatedly removed under the company’s “vaccine misinformation” policies.

“While the reliance on health authorities in this context was well-intentioned, the Company recognized it should never come at the expense of public debate on these important issues,” the letter stated.

Alphabet’s announcement followed a years-long investigation by the House Judiciary Committee into how the Biden White House coerced or colluded with Big Tech firms to censor speech. Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a subpoena to Alphabet in March requesting communications between the company and the Biden administration to determine how the previous White House sought to limit Americans’ access to free speech.

On his X account, Jordan called Alphabet’s concessions “massive wins for the American people, the First Amendment, and freedom,” adding, “We won’t stop fighting to protect free speech.”

All the above are MASSIVE wins for the American people, the First Amendment, and freedom.

We won’t stop fighting to protect free speech.

Previous Judiciary Committee investigations revealed that Facebook and Instagram censored posts and altered content moderation policies in response to pressure from the Biden administration.

Google did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
