The first stop on former Vice President Kamala Harris’ tour for her new book “107 Days” was interrupted Wednesday night by pro-Palestinian protesters.

Videos show the New York City crowd jeering at the protesters after the interruption, while Harris continued to speak and waited for security to remove the activists.

“I’m not president right now,” Harris told the protestors. “There’s nothing I can do.” The audience echoed a similar sentiment, with one attendee yelling, “She’s not an elected official!”

The auditorium was largely hostile to the protestors, jeering at their outburst and joining in a chant of “Ka-ma-la” when security guards removed the protestors from the room.

“I understand what’s happening right now in Gaza,” Harris told the audience. “What is happening to the Palestinian people is outrageous, and it breaks my heart. I get it. I get it.”

Protestors at the event in The Town Hall venue in Manhattan halted the event with “repeated interruptions,” The Washington Post reported. Protestors were also seen outside of the venue, bearing Palestinian flags and signs that read ‘Harris: Genocide is your legacy’ and ‘717 Days of Genocide,’ according to the Post.

“You guys, listen, please, I actually also write about this, ok?” Harris said. “Which is — about what I know about how and why you are saying what you are saying now, and how I felt about it. You’re not letting me talk. I respect your right to speak, but you’re not letting me speak.”

“Wait wait, hey hey, let’s bring the temperature down, unlike the current president of the United States…” Harris said before being drowned out by cheers from the crowd.

“[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] wanted Trump in the seat opposite him. Not Joe, not me,” Harris wrote in her newly released book. “Netanyahu wanted the guy who would acquiesce to his every extreme proposal for the future of Gaza’s inhabitants and add his own plan for a land grab by his developer cronies.”

“For any enduring peace, we have to let go of extreme rhetoric on both sides. The war in Gaza is not a binary issue, but too often the conversation about it is,” Harris added. “I wanted to acknowledge the complexity, nuance, and history of the region, but it seemed very few people had the appetite for that or the willingness to hold two tragic narratives in their mind at the same time, to grieve for human suffering both Israeli and Palestinian.”
