The White House said Friday that the Nobel Prize committee “politics over peace” by not awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to President Donald Trump.
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado was awarded the prize in an announcement made Friday, IJR reported.
The decision did not sit well with the White House as Trump was considered a contender, per Newsmax.
“President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” White House spokesman Steven Cheung posted on X.
“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.”
Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, defended the committee’s decision when asked why Trump did not win and if Trump campaigning got the prize affected how the committee voted, IJR reported.
“In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen many types of campaign, media attention. We receive thousands and thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what, for them, leads to peace,” Frydnes said.
“This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates and that room is filled with both courage and integrity. So we base only our decision on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.”
Many others took to X to support Trump.
