Less than two weeks after filing for divorce from Keith Urban, actress Nicole Kidman is opening up about the emotional strength that comes with age and experience — and how she’s learning to navigate life’s hardest moments.
According to Fox News, in a candid new interview with Harper’s Bazaar published Oct. 9, the 58-year-old Oscar winner reflected on how she’s leaned on wisdom, motherhood, and inner fortitude during times of upheaval.
“The best part is the experiences that you’ve accumulated,” Kidman said. “You go, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this now,’ or ‘maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I’ve experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.’”
While the “Big Little Lies” star did not directly address her separation from Urban, she offered heartfelt insight into how she faces pain and uncertainty.
“There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through,” she continued. “You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly — and it can take an enormous amount of time — it does pass.”
Kidman filed for divorce on Sept. 30, ending her 19-year marriage to the country music star. The couple shares two daughters — Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. She also has two adult children, Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Amid the personal turmoil, Kidman said being a mother continues to give her life direction and grounding.
“My children [give me the] purpose of being their protector and their guide,” she said. “Promising them that I’m here and that, no matter what, there’s always a safe place to grow up in.”
Before news of the split became public, Kidman hinted at life changes in an August Vogue interview, reflecting on how unpredictable life can be.
“How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going, and then it isn’t going in that direction?” she said at the time.
By the time that interview was published on Oct. 8, Kidman had already filed for divorce.
The couple, who met in 2005 and married the following year, were last seen together publicly in June 2025 at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville.
Though fans were stunned by the news, insiders suggested it had been a long time coming.
“It really hasn’t been a secret,” a source told People, adding that the pair “have been living separately for a while now.”
