Members of the military will receive Friday their payckecks by using both legislative and Defense Department funds.

That is according to an official with the White House Office of Management and Budget, per NBC News.

This marks the second time the White House has been able to pay the military during the shutdown.

Even though troops still have to work during the shutdown as essential workers, they are not generally paid during shutdowns.

Part of the pay — about $2.5 million — will come from the military housing fund part of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, per an OMB official.

Another $1.4 billion will come from the Pentagon’s research and development account, while an additional $1.4 billion from its procurement account.

However, that adds up to about $5.3 billion, more than $1 billion less than needed.

“President Trump is continuing to make good on his promise to take care of the troops despite the fact Democrats have shut down the government and are fine with our bravest men and women getting no pay,” a Pentagon official said.

The War Department accepted a $130 million donation to pay the troops.

This led some Democrats to be concerned about the legality and ethics of the donation.

“We believe that we can continue to pay the troops on Friday. Unfortunately, we’re not going to be able to pay everybody, because we’ve been handed a very bad hand by the Democrats,” Vice President JD Vance said earlier this week.

“We do think that we can continue paying the troops, at least for now, but we’ve got food stamp benefits that are set to run out in a week. We’re trying to keep as much open as possible. We just need the Democrats to actually help us out,” he added.
