Former Vice President Dick Cheney has died at the age of 84, according to a statement released by his family.

“Richard B. Cheney, the 46th Vice President of the United States, died last night, November 3, 2025. He was 84 years old,” the family stated.

The longtime Republican leader passed away surrounded by his loved ones.

The statement added: “His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him as he passed. The former Vice President died due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.”

Cheney, a towering figure in American politics, served as vice president from 2001 to 2009 under former President George W. Bush. Additionally, he served under former President George H.W. Bush’s administration as Defense secretary. He served in the House of Representatives, representing Wyoming, prior to that role.
