Acting Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Director Todd Lyons told “Fox and Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones Monday that a manhunt was on for a gunman who fired shots at ICE agents in Chicago, warning that he would be found and prosecuted.
Federal authorities are looking for a person who fired shots at ICE agents during a Saturday operation in Chicago’s Little Village section, during which rioters threw rocks, bricks and paint cans at the agents while also carrying out at least four ramming attacks with vehicles, according to Fox News. Lyons vowed to track down the gunman, saying that law enforcement agencies were searching for the gunman.
“Obviously, for, you know, law enforcement reasons, I can’t get into it, but they are out there scouring all leads, surveillance footage, things like that,” Lyons told Jones, who asked about the progress in the manhunt. “We’re going to find them. We’ve made it clear that if you put your hands on an ICE agent or a Border Patrol agent, or if you threaten them, shoot at them, throw rocks, we’re going to find you and we’re going to prosecute you.”

ICE facilities and operations in Chicago have been the scene of several riots as opposition to the agency’s efforts to apprehend illegal immigrants has intensified. Democratic congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh of Illinois was one of six people indicted for interfering with an ICE operation.
“It’s such scary times, Lawrence. That’s the thing, right? You look at what happened on Saturday with the Border Patrol incident. They took fire from an unknown male in a jeep, so they had to protect themselves then, but it didn’t stop them from doing their mission while the local police and Homeland Security Investigations worked on finding that individual for the shooting, they kept doing their job, and they got rammed again,” Lyons told Jones. “And like you said, paint cans and bricks thrown at them, but it didn’t stop them. They kept doing their mission to rid Chicago of these criminal legal aliens. But until politicians stop this crazy rhetoric.”
ICE executed search warrants at two California marijuana farms, rescuing at least ten minors, eight of whom were reportedly unaccompanied, in July. The operation was met with violence, including one person who allegedly fired a pistol at the ICE agents.
On June 7, Fox News reporter Bill Melugin posted video showing ICE agents in one of the vehicles being hit with rocks during an operation in the Los Angeles area. Melugin posted additional video and photos of the aftermath, including a photo of an injury suffered by one ICE agent while the video showed a windshield with significant damage after a rioter threw a rock at it.
FBI agents later arrested Elpidio Reyna, who had fled to Mexico after the attack.
Two people were killed during a shooting at an ICE office in Dallas on Sept. 24, with the gunman taking his own life. In Texas, there were two previous incidents where shots were fired at ICE or Border Patrol facilities on July 4, with ten people being charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident in Alvarado, Texas.
