Anti-Trump lawyer George Conway is currently eyeing a bid for Congress as a Democrat in New York, CNN reported on Thursday.
Conway, a former Republican and co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, is considering whether to run for New York’s 12th Congressional District, CNN reported, citing an anonymous source. The House seat is currently held by Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler, who announced his retirement in September.
Conway could not immediately be reached for comment.
Conway has made headlines for being a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, and cried in April while alleging that Trump was threatening “democracy” and the “rule of law.” He also attended an anti-Trump protest in Washington, D.C. in October while wearing a shirt that reads, “I am Antifa.”
In July 2024, Conway referred to Trump as “psychopath” during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” He also said during the same appearance on MSNBC that he had “concluded several years ago” that Trump “was an absolute danger to the republic.”
Moreover, Conway claimed in an Oct. 29 post to X that “the entire world has figured out that Trump is nuts.”
“Why do people here still bother pretending otherwise?” He added.
Conway currently serves as the president of the Society for the Rule of Law, an organization of lawyers which describes its mission as “to protect the Constitution and the rule of law against rising threats posed by illiberal forces in our society, without regard to political party or partisan affiliation.” He is also co-host of The Bulwark’s “George Conway Explains It All” podcast with Sarah Longwell, another former Republican associated with the “Never Trump” movement.
Although Conway is a registered independent, New York State law allows candidates to seek a party’s nomination without being a registered member. He is notably the ex-husband of former Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway.
Jack Schlossberg, former President John F. Kennedy’s sole grandson, officially launched his campaign for New York’s 12th Congressional District late Tuesday night. However, Caroline Kennedy, Schlossberg’s mother, is concerned that her son’s congressional bid could make him “a target for violent haters,” the New York Post reported on Wednesday, citing anonymous sources.
