New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after being shot early Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan, according to police and team officials.

The shooting happened shortly after 2 a.m. near West 38th Street and Seventh Avenue, outside a popular restaurant. While police have not officially named the victim, sources told The New York Post that it was the 29-year-old NFL player. The Jets later confirmed Boyd’s involvement, releasing a short statement saying, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

Boyd was reportedly shot in the abdomen after an argument outside Sei Less, an upscale Asian-fusion restaurant that has attracted celebrities and public figures. According to law enforcement sources, the dispute turned violent and ended with at least two gunshots being fired. Police say Boyd was with a group of friends at the time, but it’s not clear if he was the intended target.

Witnesses say two luxury vehicles, a BMW X6 and a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach, sped away from the scene right after the shooting. Police also found a Rhino GX parked outside the restaurant — a heavily armored SUV that can cost upwards of $300,000. Despite multiple witnesses, police say people at the scene were mostly uncooperative, which has made piecing together what happened more difficult.

Boyd was reportedly slipping in and out of consciousness before emergency responders rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Boyd is a former standout at the University of Texas and has played for several NFL teams since being drafted in 2019. He began his career with the Minnesota Vikings and later spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. This year, he signed a $1.6 million contract with the New York Jets. According to sports salary tracking site Spotrac.com, Boyd has earned over $8 million throughout his career.

So far this season, Boyd has not taken the field. He has been on the Jets’ injured reserve list after suffering a shoulder injury during pre-season practice. The team is currently coming off a Thursday night loss to the New England Patriots and was not scheduled to play on Sunday.

Sei Less, the location of the incident, has a reputation as a nightlife hotspot. According to past interviews, the restaurant has hosted high-profile guests, including celebrities from the music and entertainment world. The founder, Dara Mirjahangiry, once told Good Morning America that rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs once bought drinks for the entire venue during a visit.
