The ballroom at the White House could cost as much as $400 million.
That’s according to President Donald Trump, who hinted the price tag could double from the $200 million original price, per The Hill.
Trump spoke about the project during a Hanukkah reception at the White House.
He lamented the current space is forcing the administration to turn away some guests.
“For 150 years they wanted a ballroom, and we’re giving them — myself and donors are giving them, free of charge for nothing — we’re donating a building that’s approximately $400 million,” Trump said. “I think I’ll do it for less. But it’s [$400 million]. I should do it for less. I will do it for less.”

He continued by touting what the ballroom will have.
“It will be the most beautiful ballroom, and it will handle inaugurations,” the president said. “It’s got 5-inch-thick glass windows. Impenetrable by anything but a howitzer. … Who else but in our country would sue to stop $400 million beautiful ballroom?”
On Tuesday, federal judge ruled construction could proceed, after a preservation group requested to temporarily halt the project because Congress had not approved the plans.
The cost of the ballroom has steadily increased since it was first announced in July it would cost $200 million. Then, Trump announced it would cost $300 million.
At the same time, Trump and his aides have downplayed the amount as private donors will fund the project.
The project has stirred up controversy after Trump said the existing White House building would not be impacted by the project. That changed in October when construction crews started bulldozing the East Wing.
