CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings scoffed at his fellow “State of the Union” panelists Sunday as they suggested President Donald Trump is cognitively declining.
Corporate media rushed to highlight how Trump went off topic from affordability during his Friday speech in North Carolina by discussing his wife’s lingerie drawer, furniture, and other topics. CNN’s Bakari Sellers and Kate Bedingfield tried to blame Trump’s age during Sunday’s broadcast, prompting Jennings to argue they cannot attack his age after the alleged coverup of former President Joe Biden’s decline.
Like he’s extremely old, and he is burgeoning on senility, and we can see that. And the fact that we just went through a president who went through that, and Scott and Kristen, they can’t … They are not going to say anything without mentioning Joe Biden,” Sellers said.
“Are you really going to try this today?” Jennings pushed back. “Come on. Come on, Bakari. Unbelievable.”

“I mean, he’s talking about undergarments, panties. He’s talking about— it’s not a weave. That’s not what we’re seeing. We’re seeing somebody’s old uncle. I mean, let’s just call it what it is. Yes, yes, the American public saw Joe Biden get old and decrepit in the White House,” Sellers said.
Before Biden’s disastrous performance at the June 27, 2024 presidential debate, Democrats and legacy media outlets brushed off any concerns about Biden’s physical and mental decline despite his not appearing in public often and suffering several falls. The Democrats and corporate outlets initially branded these concerns as a “right-wing conspiracy” until after the debate.
CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson’s 2025 book, “Original Sin,” contains accounts from former White House aides, Democrat congressmen, and other sources with direct knowledge about the deterioration of Biden’s health and the desperate attempt to hide his decline as he ran for reelection. Biden’s family and top aides insulated him from the public eye and from members of his own cabinet to ensure he could successfully run for reelection.
The former president’s personal physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, warned his aides Biden may have to be placed in a wheelchair following his fall in June 2023 when he tripped over a sandbag, Axios previously reported, citing Tapper and Thompson’s book. Biden also reportedly did not recognize his longtime friend, George Clooney, during a fundraiser in June 2024, leaving the legendary Hollywood actor “shaken.”
The New York Times published a report Dec. 1 alleging Trump has made fewer public appearances and has appeared tired in comparison to his first term. The same reporter who wrote the story, Katie Rogers, wrote a story in March 2021 attempting to convince the public Biden simply fell up the stairs of Air Force One because of the strong wind.
