The Reiner family’s private struggles are emerging in the wake of a public tragedy, with new claims suggesting years of tension between siblings long before police arrested Nick Reiner for allegedly killing their parents.

According to Page Six, Nick, 32, was taken into custody on Dec. 14 after Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at their Brentwood, California, home.

Court records indicate that he is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7.

In the days since, attention has turned to Nick’s relationship with his younger sister, Romy Reiner, who insiders say was deeply unsettled by his behavior throughout her life.

“It feels like Romy has been scared of Nick since she was a child,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“Even before his drug addiction, his outbursts were frightening because they seemed to come out of nowhere. She tried to stay out of his way as much as she could, but it wasn’t easy.”

Romy, who turns 28 on Dec. 27, reportedly did not want her brother living close by — let alone on the same property.

The insider claimed she worried when Nick moved into her parents’ guesthouse, even though she understood why they agreed to it.

“She didn’t even like the idea of him living across the street from her,” the insider said, explaining that Romy lived next door to Rob and Michele.

“But she knew they moved him in so they could keep a close eye on him and give him a roof over his head.”

Should siblings distance themselves from family members with a history of violence?

Family dynamics, according to the source, became even more strained over time. Romy allegedly confided in her older brother, Jake, now 34, about her concerns.

“There were plenty of times when Romy would be upset with Nick, and naturally that made her much closer to Jake,” the insider said.

Jake reportedly shared Romy’s unease. “Romy was able to talk about it when she didn’t want to burden their parents,” the source added.

“She and Jake are numb right now,” the insider claimed.

Still, Romy never abandoned her brother. According to the source, she often tried to support him — even referring to Nick as her “best friend” — despite what she allegedly feared.

“Anytime that her parents looked overwhelmed or asked for help, Romy and Jake were there for Nick. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but she never disowned Nick,” the insider said.

A representative for the Reiner family did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Details about the crime itself remain limited, but multiple insiders told the outlet that Romy discovered her parents’ bodies and identified Nick as a person of interest to police.

Authorities have noted Nick’s documented history of substance abuse and violence.

Now, as the case moves toward court, grief and shock surround a family whose personal battles — once contained behind closed doors — have been forced into public view.
