President Donald Trump maybe president of the United States, but is appears he is no ornithologist.
Trump posted a photo of a dead bird on social media and wrote, “Windmills are killing all of our beautiful Bald Eagles!”
The only problem was the photo is of a falcon, not a bald eagle, Mediaitereported,
The post, made Tuesday, was another battle in Trump’s war against windmills. He claimed their turbines are harming America’s population of Bald Eagles.
Trump also posted screenshots claiming the ill effects of wind power.
But it also appears the photo was taken in Israel.
Google Lens connected the image to two articles in Israeli newspapers: Haaretz in 2017 and The Times of Israel in 2019.
The photo was taken in 2017 and is credited to the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
The type of bird is in question, too.
Haaretz identified the bird as a falcon; The Times of Israel identified it as a kestrel.
Trump’s has been outspoken in his hatred of windmills dating back to at least 2012.
That’s when he testified against them before the Scottish Parliament. Trump was against the proposed installation of 11 wind turbines alongside his Turnberry golf resort.
The turbines were constructed, after which Trump called them “some of the ugliest you’ve ever seen.”
He has also claimed windmills cause cancer.
“Hillary wanted to put up wind, wind,” Trump said in 2019 before stating, “And they say the noise causes cancer.”
In July, he said windmills were “a disgrace.”
“I think windmills are a disgrace,” he said aboard Air Force One as he was returning from Scotland.
“I think they—they hurt everything they touch. They’re ugly. They’re very inefficient. It’s the most expensive form of energy there is,” the president said.
