GERMANTOWN, MD - NOVEMBER 11: Shown is a plate with sauerkraut filled pierogi on November 11, 2011 in Germantown, Md. Three generations of the Plamondon family including Lorrie Plamondon, her daughter Anne McNamara, and Lorrie's granddaughter Elizabeth McNamara spend several hours in the kitchen making the Pierogi from scratch for the Christmas holiday. Pierogi are boiled, baked or fried dumplings traditionally stuffed with potato filling, sauerkraut, ground meat, cheese, or fruit. The pierogi is an Eastern and Central European dish. New York City may have its annual ball drop on New Year’s Eve, but a restaurant in Ohio will have its first-ever pierogi drop.

Sloppy Bob’s in Parma is getting ready to pay homage to the Polish dumpling, NewsNation reported.

According to owner Kelly Lasecki, a giant pierogi will drop from the roof of the restaurant at midnight. This is the start of a brand-new local tradition.

Earlier on New Year’s Eve, a portion of State Road will close to allow for food trucks and festivities.

“It’s a first time, and hopefully a tradition we keep running,” Lasecki said.

But Parma isn’t the only Ohio town with a unique “ball drop.”

Should Parma continue the pierogi drop as a New Year's tradition?

In Chagrin Falls, for example, the Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop is getting ready for the city’s annual popcorn ball drop. This has been a tradition there since in 2012.

“This year’s popcorn ball carries special meaning. It’s named in honor of ‘Miss Sally,’ who originally came up with the idea for the popcorn ball drop,” General Manager Rachael Raymond said.

Raymond said the popcorn ball drop gave way for Parma’s new pierogi tradition.

She helped by sharing behind-the-scenes details after she was  contacted by organizers looking to create something unique to Parma.

“It’s exciting to get the community together,” Raymond said. “It gives people a chance to explore different New Year’s drops like these.”
