A blunt political exchange on a popular podcast put Rep. Jasmine Crockett squarely in the crosshairs, as former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Bowen Yang and longtime collaborator Matt Rogers warned listeners against opening their wallets for the Texas Democrat’s Senate ambitions.
According to Fox News, the remarks unfolded during Wednesday’s episode of “Las Culturistas,” where Rogers launched into a timed segment meant to “rant, rail, rave” about cultural and political figures.
What began as a critique of prominent Democrats quickly narrowed to a pointed assessment of Crockett and her viability on a statewide stage.
Rogers argued that politicians who make politics “too obviously about themselves” are a turnoff for voters and donors alike. He then delivered his advice without hesitation.
“Anytime a politician is making it too obviously about themselves, I’m already done,” Rogers said. “And don’t waste your money sending to Jasmine Crockett. Do not do it.”
Yang did not push back. Instead, he aligned himself with the sentiment.
“I must agree,” Yang replied.
Rogers continued, stressing that his comments were not theoretical but informed by personal regret over past political donations.
“Don’t do it. Don’t. You’re going to waste your money,” he said. “Take it from someone who sent Sara Gideon a ton of money in Maine. Just don’t do it. Don’t waste your money. Don’t do it.”
Yang added a note of practicality to the exchange.
“It’s hard enough to come by,” he said, referring to disposable income.
As the conversation continued, Rogers clarified that his criticism was not rooted in personal animus toward Crockett. Instead, he framed it as a cold political calculation, arguing that Crockett’s public persona is already firmly established and unlikely to translate into a statewide victory in Texas.
“She’s not going to win a Senate seat in Texas, you guys,” Rogers said. “Like, if Beto O’Rourke couldn’t do it, Jasmine Crockett is not going to do it.”
The discussion then shifted toward self-reflection, with both hosts revisiting their past political enthusiasm. Yang admitted he now regrets how openly he supported Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.
“This is another thing about early days ‘Las Culturistas’ that I regret is being a Hillary stan,” Yang said.
Rogers offered a partial defense of their mindset at the time.
“I don’t regret it because I think we were trying really hard to just win,” he said.
“I know. But I feel so silly,” Yang responded.
Rogers later expanded his critique to other Democratic figures, expressing frustration with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and dismissing his national prospects in a characteristically sharp monologue.
“The number-one one actionable thing that Gavin Newsom can do right now is text Savannah Guthrie and get who whoever just did her vocal surgery,” Rogers said, suggesting the governor take a prolonged break from speaking while continuing to tweet.
Yang punctuated the rant with a final jab.
“Get vocal surgery and finish the damn 405,” he said.
