Elon Musk is once again escalating his public and legal battle with influencer and author Ashley St. Clair, this time by threatening to seek full custody of their young son following her apology for past remarks about the transgender community.
According to PEOPLE, in a post on X on Monday, Jan. 12, Musk, 54, said he planned to file for full custody of the child he shares with St. Clair, 27.
He commented while replying to another user who suggested legal action after St. Clair publicly walked back statements she previously made that were critical of transgender people.
“I will be filing for full custody today, given her statements implying she might transition a one-year-old boy,” Musk wrote.
Responding over the weekend to criticism on X, St. Clair apologized directly for her past rhetoric.
“I feel immense guilt for my role. And even more guilt that things I have said in the past may have caused my son’s sister more pain,” she wrote, appearing to reference Musk’s transgender daughter, Vivian.
“Idrk how to make amends for many of these things but I have been trying incredibly hard privately to learn + advocate for those within the trans community that I’ve hurt,” she added.
St. Clair said she delayed speaking publicly because she feared her apology would be dismissed as insincere.
“Even this reply will become right wing hysteria but yeah I am sorry,” she wrote. “Let me know how I can help.”
The latest clash is part of a broader custody dispute between the two. St. Clair revealed in 2024 that she and Musk share a son, later confirming his name is Romulus. She is currently suing for sole custody.
Musk has denied claims that he financially retaliated against their child. In a previous post, he said that despite uncertainty over paternity, he has provided financial support.
“I’ve given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year,” Musk wrote.
St. Clair responded by accusing Musk of refusing a paternity test and using money to exert control.
“But you’re really only punishing your son,” she wrote.
The dispute continues to play out publicly as both sides trade accusations on X.
