Former MSNBC host Joy Reid admitted during a Monday interview with podcaster Angela Yee that Renee Nicole Good was part of a group of “ICE interrupters” that sought to obstruct federal immigration enforcement.
Good was fatally shot by a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during a Jan. 7 enforcement operation, raising tensions between state and local officials and the federal government. Reid, appearing on Monday’s episode of “Way Up with Angela Yee,” said that Good had sought to prevent ICE agents from apprehending illegal immigrants.
“This woman was part of a group of people who they train to try to be ICE interrupters. And what they try to do is observe what ICE is doing, film them, and try to use their white privilege. to be honest, they’re mainly white people, which is what we asked them to do, right?” Reid said. “Because black people… we can’t put our bodies on the line because cops will shoot us.”

“And so the presumption had been, particularly a white woman, remember, part of the rationale for doing this with ICE is to save white women from being ravaged by criminal brown men,” Reid continued, referencing the outcry over the murders of Laken Riley, Rachel Morin and Jocelyn Nungaray by illegal immigrants. “So, they white women have been taking the lead in being the ones to step forward and challenge ICE.”
Riley, Morin and Nungaray were all raped and murdered by illegal immigrants who had been allowed to remain in the country by the Biden administration. Their murders made illegal immigration, long a signature issue of President Donald Trump, a prominent issue in the 2024 campaign.
“In this case, this white woman and her wife, who’s also a white woman, were driving in an SUV. They parked to try to block ICE from snatching people out of a suburban neighborhood,” Reid told Yee.
Among the illegal immigrants arrested by ICE in the Minneapolis area on Jan. 7, the day Good was shot, were multiple sex offenders, people convicted on drug charges and people convicted of assault, according to a Thursday release by the Department of Homeland Security.
ICE deployed hundreds of agents into the Minneapolis area in December to target illegal immigrants from Somalia after initial reports indicated there was widespread fraud ravaging Minnesota’s welfare programs. Federal officials said during a Dec. 18 press conference that the amount of stolen money was at least $9 billion, while the Treasury Department is investigating whether some of the stolen funds went to the radical Islamic terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
Reid has a history of making racially-charged rants, including calling the Founding Fathers “killers” and leeches and attacking “white women” for not backing then-Vice President Kamala Harris during MSNBC coverage of the election results on Nov. 5, 2024. Tucker Carlson, a co-founder of the Daily Caller and Daily Caller News Foundation, compared the MSNBC shows of Reid and fellow MSNBC host Tiffany Cross to “Hutu radio” during an October 2022 episode of his Fox News show, referencing media that reportedly incited the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
