Tensions flared in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Sunday as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer confronted a bystander allegedly obstructing a federal operation to apprehend a child sex offender.
According to the New York Post, a video posted on X captured the exchange, showing the masked agent pulling alongside a reporter who was observing the scene.
“We’re here to arrest a child sex offender. And you guys are out here honking,” the officer said.
The reporter replied, “We’re not honking, we’re press.”
“That vehicle right there is honking and impeding on investigations while we’re trying to arrest a child sex offender,” the officer insisted. “That’s who you guys are protecting. Insane.” He shook his head and drove off.
Earlier footage showed the same agent speaking with a woman in a parked car, who questioned the legitimacy of ICE’s warrants. The officer repeated his frustration: “It’s insane. It’s insane.” Details of the alleged obstruction or its duration remain unclear.
The confrontation comes amid heightened scrutiny of ICE in the Twin Cities following the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good. Good, a mother of three, was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who authorities said was attacked by her vehicle. Critics argue Ross used lethal force prematurely.
Since the incident, protests have erupted across the region. At one demonstration, vandals spray-painted messages including “hang Kristi Noem,” “f–k ICE,” and “only good agent is a dead one” on a car. The FBI is now offering a $100,000 reward for tips leading to arrests connected to the vandalism.
The St. Paul incident underscores the volatility surrounding federal law enforcement in Minnesota, as ICE officers carry out arrests amid public demonstrations and rising anti-ICE sentiment.
