The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) sparked massive backlash on Tuesday for labeling a conservative student beaten to death by a mob a “far-right student” in a recently published headline.

Authorities charged a group of nine far-left militants with fatally beating 23-year-old Quentin Deranque in Lyon, France, during a protest. The BBC after it published the headline, “Nine arrested in France over death of far-right student,” which sparked outrage among conservatives online.

“Fuck the BBC,” The Gateway Pundit’s Ben Kew said on X.

“FAR LEFT murder a young man! Fixed it for you,” journalist Tommy Robinson said. “Defund the BBC!”

“The far left kill a student and you still 1. Refuse to call them what they are, and 2. Take one last swipe at their dead victim. This isn’t reporting. It’s narrative management. Defund the BBC,” Rebel News’ Avi Yemini wrote.

Should the BBC have labeled the student as a far-right individual?

“In ten words @BBCNews manages five examples of disinformation. Let me give it a go: Nine far-left thugs beat student to death for protecting women,” GBN News Josh Howie stated.

The article, written by Hugh Schofield, stated that Deranque was beaten at a protest held by so-called “far-right feminists” at the Institute of Political Studies. The suspects who were detained are reportedly linked to a far-left militant group called La Jeune Garde (Young Guard), according to the BBC. Among those arrested was a parliamentary assistant from the far-left France Unbowed (LFI) party.

The BBC did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

In 2024, the BBC aired an edited version of President Donald Trump’s speech from the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6, 2021, in which they spliced two separate portions of the speech together to make it appear like he called on protesters to march to the U.S. Capitol. The network apologized to Trump in November and told him the documentary would not be aired on any BBC platform again.

Trump filed a lawsuit against the network in December and accused the BBC of attempting to interfere in the 2024 election by making it appear like he incited the Capitol riot. He had previously warned the BBC that he would sue unless the network retracted, apologized and compensated him.
