The death of Victoria Jones, the daughter of actor Tommy Lee Jones, has been ruled accidental, with officials confirming she died from the toxic effects of cocaine.
According to USA Today, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in San Francisco listed the cause on her certified death certificate, according to a spokesperson who confirmed the finding Feb. 17.
Victoria Jones, 34, was found unresponsive in a hotel hallway in San Francisco during the early morning hours of Jan. 1. Paramedics were called just before 3 a.m., and she was pronounced dead at the scene, the San Francisco Fire Department previously said.
Her family asked for privacy in a statement issued at the time.
“We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers,” the family said. “Please respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Victoria was the younger child of Tommy Lee Jones and his former wife, Kimberlea Cloughley, who were married from 1981 to 1996. The pair also shares a son, Austin Jones. The actor later married Dawn Laurel in 2001.
Victoria Jones had a limited acting résumé that included an appearance in the 2002 film “Men in Black II,” where her father reprised his role as Agent K. She also had a small part in the 2005 film “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,” which her father directed and starred in, and appeared in an episode of the TV series “One Tree Hill” the same year.
Following her death, attention returned to a conservatorship her father had sought two years earlier. Court records show that in August 2023, Tommy Lee Jones successfully petitioned a Marin County court to appoint a conservator to oversee his daughter’s affairs.
The temporary conservatorship was later terminated. Records indicate that Jones filed to end the arrangement in December 2023, and the court approved the request days later.
Under California law, a general conservatorship allows a court to appoint someone to manage the personal and financial needs of an individual deemed unable to do so independently, granting the conservator broad authority unless specific powers are limited.
Officials have not released additional details beyond the ruling that Victoria Jones’ death was accidental.
