Former President Bill Clinton testified Friday he did not see or know of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes during their “brief acquaintance.”
Those were the words Clinton said in his opening statement before a House committee Friday, per MS NOW.
Clinton is testifying about his alleged relationship with Epstein before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform in a deposition.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was deposed Thursday.
“Though my brief acquaintance with Epstein ended years before his crimes came to light, and though I never witnessed during our limited interactions any indication of what was truly going on, I am here to offer what little I know so that it might prevent anything like this from ever happening again,” Bill Clinton said.
He also criticized the committee for deposing his wife Thursday.
“She had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. Nothing,” he said. “She has no memory of even meeting him. She neither traveled with him nor visited any of his properties. Whether you subpoenaed 10 people or 10,000, including her was simply not right.”
Bill Clinton is one of many prominent men who appear in the Epstein files.
The documents released by the Justice Department show that Epstein’s co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell was involved in kicking off the Clinton Global Initiative years before Epstein was indicted for sex crimes in 2006.
Bill Clinton has not been accused of wrongdoing. He has said he cut ties with Epstein before Epstein was indicted and eventual conviction on state charges in Florida for soliciting prostitution and soliciting prostitution with a minor.
Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, said before Friday’s deposition they plan to question Bill Clinton on Epstein and Maxwell’s involvement in the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton Foundation.
Comer said Hillary Clinton “deferred a lot of questions to her husband” in her testimony Thursday.
“So we already had a big portfolio of questions for him, and that increased yesterday,” he added.
