The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) arrested a previously pardoned Jan. 6 defendant for an alleged assault near Arlington, Virginia, on Monday night.

Bryan Betancur, 28, was arrested for an incident that occurred on Sunday night, Washington, D.C, based outlet WJLA reported. According to MTPD, he had a warrant out for assault and battery on a Silver Line train at Clarendon Metro Station on Sunday night.

Betancur, who describes himself as a “Citizen Journalist” and “Catholic” in his X profile bio, was arrested for his participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. He was also reportedly on probation during the attack for a burglary case in 2018, according to local NBC affiliate WBAL.

An anonymous X user posted videos to the social media platform, allegedly from the point of view of Betancur, depicting the cameraperson stroking another passenger’s hair and accusing him of “taking pictures of women’s feet.”

Should pardoned defendants face stricter scrutiny after new allegations?

MTPD did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

The agency did post an alert to X on Tuesday, asking for help locating Betancur. The department wrote in the post, “We are aware of videos circulating on social media depicting inappropriate behavior toward Metro customers.”

President Donald Trump granted pardons and commuted the sentences of every person facing criminal charges for their roles in the attack on the first day of his second term in office. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a government watchdog, reported in December 2025 that 33 Jan. 6 rioters have been “rearrested, charged or sentenced for other crimes since January 6, 2021.
