Democratic strategist James Carville condemned Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar for “attacking white males” during a Wednesday episode of SiriusXM’s “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.”
A May 2025 clip of Carville telling Omar to leave the Democratic Party on his “Politics War Room” podcast resurfaced and went viral on Feb. 25. Host Stephen A. Smith asked the Democratic strategist on his show to explain what prompted him to push Omar to depart from his party. (RELATED: Rep. “[S]he’s a very attractive soft-spoken lady. I have a lot of friends in Minneapolis and a lot of people think well of her. But she started attacking white males,” Carville said. “And I’m saying, ‘Wait a minute. Let’s stop.’ In 2024, 72% of the people that voted were white. That’s just a fact. Of that 72%, probably 48% or 48.5% were males. It’s somewhere around … 33% of the people that are going to vote are going to be white males. Well, it’s stupid to attack 33% of the voters!”
“You don’t want to start there. What you try to do is you start and you build up. And so what I would say to Congresswoman Omar: ‘Why don’t you be a Democratic Socialists of America? … I share a lot of ideological issues in common with Congresswoman Omar,” he added. “But maybe you should do like a parliamentary government. We’ll let you in the governing coalition but not the electoral coalition. I’m being facetious. I don’t think she’d do that. But we have to get this mentality out that we can win national elections with[out] white people because you can’t!”
Carville said it was “insanity” to think that Democrats could win elections without white male voters. He called it both “mathematical insanity” and “cultural insanity.”
The Democratic strategist initially told Omar to leave the party after a clip from a 2018 Al Jazeera interview resurfaced and went viral on X Sunday. Omar claimed in the clip that the U.S. “should be more fearful of white men across our country because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country.”
“Lady, why don’t you just get out the Democratic Party? Honestly, start your own movement … Goddamn, these people are just helpless,” Carville said at the time.
Moreover, Carville suggested in an April Politicon video that far-left Americans should formally break away from the Democratic Party.
“[M]aybe we can have an amicable split here and you go your way and we go our way,” he said. “And after the election, we come together and see how much common ground we can find.”
Omar also shouted at President Donald Trump after he brought up illegal immigration during his Feb. 24 State of the Union address.
