It all fits together, doesn’t it? So much Democrat prattle can’t withstand elementary scrutiny, but align certain issues and a strategy emerges. Consider open borders and opposition to common photo IDs for voting.
Start with open borders. Sure, many millions who flooded the United States under Joe Biden and before sought freedom and a better life in the land of opportunity. If you lived in Venezuela under Maduro or Haiti under, well, anybody, why wouldn’t you risk everything for a chance at the promised land?
It is also true that a certain level of immigration invigorates a country. But the immigration must follow certain limits, laws, and procedures. An attractive country with open borders soon ceases to be a country, instead morphing into the kind of dump from which the immigrants fled.
Under President Donald Trump the left extended its insanity to protecting violent illegals against deportation. Not all illegals commit crimes after entering the country illegally, but tens of thousands have. The left wants every single one of them to stay in America.
Consider George Soros-backed woke Fairfax County, Va. Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano who “repeatedly dropped charges against a violent migrant who allegedly butchered a woman at a bus stop.” No doubt Descano offers touching words to explain why Sierra Leone illegal Abdul Jalloh slashed away at 41-year-old mother Stephanie Minter.
Making sense of leftwing mush justifying open borders and protecting monsters like Jalloh is almost impossible. Almost. These aren’t stupid people. And many of them are sincere as they read the approved Democratic Party talking points.
Focus sharpens when considering Democrats’ fierce opposition to requiring government-issued photo IDs for voting, offering the same arguments used against cleaning up official voter registration rolls. In isolation, these arguments are as senseless as their defense of open borders.
The latest polling indicates that 83% of Americans support voter ID. Good luck finding another issue in polarized America over which so many Americans agree. Yet the Democratic Party is stoutly opposed. Why?
The explanation won’t be found in the rubbish that Senate Democrats spout defending the indefensible, arguments so vacuous only the truly shameless would utter them. Oh, well, we are talking about the Chuck Schumer-led Democrats here.
Just to take one example, Democrats complain requiring a photo ID might disenfranchise some legal voters. Response: Every effort must be made to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Fact: Every illegal who votes in a federal election unquestionably disenfranchises an American voter.
Now the picture is crystal clear. Democrats want open borders and oppose deportation, and Democrats oppose photo-ID for voting, because they know a goodly number of those illegals do in fact vote, especially in precincts where poll workers look the other way.
Further, Democrats believe, probably correctly, that those illegal voters likely overwhelmingly vote for Democrats and so Americans disenfranchised by illegals are mostly Republican voters.
If you’re a Democratic pol, what’s not to like? When they say they are protecting democracy, what they mean is they are protecting the Democratic Party.
Democrats are all about political power. To be sure, Republicans also pursue political power, they’re just rarely as dedicated to or competent in its acquisition or swayed by its lure.
Nor is the pursuit of political power inherently evil. Civil society requires governance, and governance requires political power. Decisions have to be made, often in the face of sincere opposition. Complaining about politics is like complaining about hormones in teenagers.
The question is, how far are you willing to go to gain and hold power?
For Democrats, they’re willing to debase the franchise of American citizens through open borders and illegals voting. It’s despicable. Senate Republicans can reduce it dramatically by passing the SAVE Act, even if it means Democrats have to spend hours on their feet.
