George Floyd family attorney Ben Crump took to social media Monday to condemn the shooting of Stephenson King Jr. and call for justice for his family.

King, 39, died after Boston police officer Nicholas O’Malley shot him three times on March 11. The shooting followed allegations that King carjacked a woman outside a pizza restaurant, rammed a police cruiser, and attempted to flee in the stolen vehicle, Mass Daily News reported. Crump posted on Instagram to say that King’s family deserves the truth.

“His family is now forced to carry the pain of a loss that should never have happened. The arrest and arraignment of the officer who killed him speaks volumes about the gravity of this case,” Crump wrote. “This family deserves the full truth, real accountability, and justice that is not delayed or denied. We will not stop fighting until they get it.”

King had 47 prior criminal charges in Boston alone, including breaking and entering, strangulation, and firearms offenses, spanning 17 cases over two decades. At the time of the shooting, he was out on bail for four separate felonies and faced an outstanding warrant. A judge appointed by Attorney General Maura Healey released him on $0 bail just months earlier.

O’Malley has been charged with manslaughter by District Attorney Kevin Hayden, who is seeking reelection. A GoFundMe campaign for O’Malley raised more than $500,000, and 60 officers attended his arraignment.

“The O’Malley family is facing an incredibly difficult time due to unforeseen circumstances, and they need our support now more than ever. With two young children depending on them, the financial road ahead is uncertain,” the fundraiser reads.

Crump consistently takes on high-profile cases involving deaths at the hands of police or federal agents. He framed Keith Porter Jr.’s New Year’s Eve death by an off-duty U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent as another fight for justice and accountability.

“Keith Porter Jr. was a father of two, a son, and a brother whose life was stolen by an off-duty ICE agent. His family gathered in grief demanding the truth. We will continue to stand with Keith Porter Jr.’s family until there is justice, transparency, and answers,” Crump said in January.
