Secretary of State Marco Rubio sparked some responses on social media when he appeared in a Nike tracksuit instead of his usual suit and tie.
White House communications director Steven Cheung posted a photo on X of a more casual Rubio aboard Air Force One as he traveled with President Donald Trump to China Wednesday.
“Secretary Rubio rocking the Nike Tech ‘Venezuela’ on Air Force One!” Cheung wrote.
Officials are expected to focus on trade and national security issues.
But for now, Rubio’s tracksuit is garnering the lion’s share of attention.
Comparisons to the tracksuit Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro when he was captured flooded social media.
“Is Marco going to be the DJ for the flight?” one X user wrote alongside an edited image showing Rubio standing behind a DJ booth.
Another user wrote, “Okay — did I miss one of Marco Rubio’s new jobs? Sportswear model?”

Nike Tech fleece tracksuits have become more popular in recent months, fueled in part by the Maduro images.
Senior officials are typically seen in formal wear during Air Force One travel.
