The question seemed simple. Give “one main metric” President Donald Trump has made “better off” in his security and term as president.
But the question appeared to stump MAGA commentator Dave Rubin during a “Surrounded” debate hosted by Jubilee Media.
The debate pitted him against 20 “far-left Democrats” as Rubin struggled after a debater identified as Parker asked for a metric along the lines of gross domestic product, unemployment or inflation.
“Well, right now, first off, the Big Beautiful Bill was just passed last year and it’s kicking in now, right? It’s kicking in now,” Rubin said.
His predictions on the Iran war were mocked on social media last week.
Watch:
“So we are see — we’re going to now see results of that. Like, or even the tariffs, so let’s do tariffs — are you for or against tariffs?” he said at the debate.
The debater responded he was against Trump’s universal tariffs and then returned to his question.
“So what’s the main metric that he made better off?” he asked.
“What?” Rubin responded.
“What’s the main metric that he made better off? GDP, unemployment, inflation? Do you have any idea?” Parker asked.
“Listen,” Rubin replied.
“I don’t think you do,” Parker hit back.
Rubin suggested the debater was arguing the economy was better when Joe Biden was president, a point that Parker said he “absolutely” agreed with.
“We’re seeing all of those economic indicators become worse off,” said Parker, before returning to his question.
“Can you tell me anything that he’s done to make it better off? You say it’s broken for Democrats. It sounds like it’s broken right now under Trump,” Parker said.
Watch:
Later, critics such as Mehdi Hasan and Brian Shapiro went after Rubin, calling his performance in the debate “embarrassing” debate performance. Shapiro called Rubin a “complete imbecile.”
Left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker also questioned why Rubin would “even choose to do” the debate.
“He would’ve lost the debate to an empty chair. Truly the dumbest the right has to offer,” he wrote on X.
