CNN’s Jim Acosta is questioning whether former President Donald Trump is mentally fit for the job after repeating a debunked story about Haitian migrants eating pets.
On Friday, Acosta played a clip of Trump saying, “Migrants are walking off with the town’s geese, they’re taking the geese… and even walking off with their pets.”
He noted there are “real-world consequences” to such rhetoric as he highlighted recent bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio.
“We were talking about the Biden-Trump debate a little while ago, and there were all these calls for Biden to drop out of the race and step aside after that debate performance,” Acosta said. “When the former president is talking about people stealing geese and eating dogs and cats, I mean, shouldn’t there be a conversation about whether Trump should step aside even at this late stage?”

Conservative CNN contributor Scott Jennings shot back, “No, come on! He’s the Republican nominee. He went through a primary. And unlike the Democrats, we actually respect the democratic process…”
“But, Scott, I remember you going on and on about President Biden after that debate,” Acosta interjected. “And “I’m just wondering, do you think that Trump is all there? Is he of sound mind? Talking about people stealing geese…”
Jennings responded, “Donald Trump is the same candidate today that he was in ’16 and ’20… He is the same and he represented the same kind of politics that he always has.”
“But, no, I think to compare him to the absolutely mentally vacant Joe Biden kind of ridiculous honestly,” he added.
