A Gallup poll is revealing how Americans feel about what sports teams transgender athletes can compete in.
The Gallup poll released on Wednesday found a majority of Americans, 69%, believe transgender athletes should compete on sports teams that match their biological sex, up from 62% in May 2021.
Meanwhile, 26% say they should be able to compete on the teams that match their identity, down from 34% two years ago.
The latest survey was conducted May 1-24, 2023.
It comes as the issue of transgender athletes has become a major issue in American politics.
So far, over 20 states have banned transgender athletes from competing on sports teams that do not match their biological sex.
Additionally, House Republicans voted to pass a bill restricting transgender athletes — however, it has no chance of passing the Senate.
Conservatives celebrated the poll on Twitter:
Its almost like a supermajority of Americans agree on this, and that this is an issue that the fringe Left is trying to politicize. https://t.co/nS1k29rAKC

This is an obvious! People should compete in the gender they are born with, if you think otherwise you don't understand athletics and hate women. https://t.co/LFJAxHuh3Y

Yes. @NBCNews and the rest of the regime elites are in the small minority who still think it’s a good idea to destroy women’s sports and who refer to one’s sex as “the sex they were assigned at birth”. F’n ?s https://t.co/9CRVRFBQMq

The Gallup poll also found 55% of respondents said it is “morally wrong” to change one’s gender, up from 51% two years ago.
Meanwhile, those who say it is acceptable fell to 43% from 46%.
