Another top official in the Adams administration is calling it quits amid the recent unveiling of bribery and corruption charges targeting the mayor’s office, according to multiple reports.

New York City Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, Phil Banks, is the sixth official to resign over the last month after being investigated over a potential bribery scheme, The New York Times reported. Eric Adams had his electronics seized by the FBI in 2023, to which he was indicted a year later on Sept. 25 over his campaign allegedly having ties with the Turkish government and receiving illegal donations.

“He stated that he wanted to transition to some other things with his life and he doesn’t want this to be a constant burden on the work that we are doing in the city and I accepted his resignation,” Adams said Monday morning on NY1 when asked about Banks’ resignation, according to the New York Post.

First Deputy Mayor, Sheena Wright, announced she would step down from her post on Friday, after both her and Banks had their homes raided by federal agents in September. Wright denied allegations that she was forced out of her position, but sources told Politico that Adams was pushing her resignation.

Feds investigated Banks for allegedly steering lucrative city contracts toward companies represented by his younger brother’s consulting firm, according to the New York Post.

Banks was also named an “unindicted co-conspirator” in an earlier bribery case centered around two individuals, who had used hookers and jewelry to pay off police officers, the New York Post reported. Despite Banks’ alleged involvement in the bribery scandal, Adams hired him to be his deputy mayor for public safety in 2022.

Adams pleaded not guilty on Sept. 27 over alleged illegal contributions, to which his mayor announced that he would be filing a motion in an attempt to get the case dismissed.

The New York City mayor’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
