Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is using Sen. Ted Cruz‘s (R-Texas) trip to Cancun to roast him for his criticism of the situation at the southern border.

On Thursday, Cruz reacted to the New York Congresswoman’s criticism of lawmakers who are raising concerns about the situation at the southern border as he accused her of pushing an “open borders” agenda.

She responded by taking a shot at his notorious trip to Cancun in February while thousands of Texas residents were without power due to a winter storm.

“Ted, this is pretty rich coming from someone who fled their own home (and responsibilities) during an environmental crisis to cross the border and seek refuge in Mexico,” she wrote. “Also you funded cages, expanded cages, and yet you’re complaining about cages. You have no policy, just puff.”

A reminder that your resignation is 84 days past due. At least.

She continued, “Maybe Mexico shouldn’t let YOU in the next time you try to run away from your job to sip umbrella drinks in Cancún.”

Finally, she said, “A reminder that your resignation is 84 days past due. At least.”

Cruz received criticism in February after pictures surfaced of him boarding a plane bound for Cancun while thousands of Texans were without power due to a winter storm. He initially defended the flight by claiming his daughters “asked to take a trip with friends,” and “wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”

However, he later admitted that he “had initially planned to stay through the weekend and to work remotely there.”

“But, as I was heading down there, you know, I started to have second thoughts almost immediately because the crisis here in Texas, you need to be here on the ground. And as much as you can do by phone and Zoom, it’s not the same as being here,” he said.

Ocasio-Cortez took a shot at the Texas senator at the time saying, “If Sen. Cruz had resigned back in January after helping gin up a violent insurrection that killed several people, he could’ve taken his vacation in peace. Texans should continue to demand his resignation.”

The progressive star has repeatedly called for Cruz’s resignation over what she claims is his role in inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. She even alleged in a tweet that “You almost had me murdered 3 weeks ago.”

Despite what the tweet — which is still on her timeline — says, Ocasio-Cortez later claimed that “That’s not the quote,” and said she will not apologize “for what I said.”
