Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is not pleased with NBC News’ misinterpretation of her speech during the Democratic National Convention.
Shortly after the convention wrapped up on Tuesday evening, Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter blasting the news network for its “malicious and misleading” headline for the coverage of her speech. The network alluded to Ocasio-Cortez not endorsing Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
“This is completely unacceptable, disappointing, and appalling. The DNC shared the procedural purpose of my remarks to media WELL in advance,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “[NBC] knew what was going to happen [and] that it was routine. How does a headline that malicious [and] misleading happen w/ that prior knowledge?”

The DNC shared the procedural purpose of my remarks to media WELL in advance. @NBC knew what was going to happen & that it was routine.
How does a headline that malicious & misleading happen w/ that prior knowledge?
Ocasio-Cortez criticized NBC News for its delayed efforts to resolve the issue as she noted the negative reactions she had received as a result of their report.
She wrote, “You waited several hours to correct your obvious and blatantly misleading tweet. It sparked an enormous amount of hatred and vitriol, [and] now the misinfo you created is circulating on other networks. All to generate hate-clicks from a pre-recorded, routine procedural motion.”

In the midst of Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitter rant, NBC News released a brief statement explaining the mix-up. The network confirmed the deletion of the tweet Ocasio-Cortez criticized as it admitted the tweet should have “included more detail on the nominating process.”

Ocasio-Cortez was asked by the DNC to second Sanders' nomination. The nomination is a procedural requirement of the convention.
Ocasio-Cortez has previously endorsed Biden, & her speech was similar in length to other nominating speeches.
The network went on to explain the nomination process as it confirmed Ocasio-Cortez had “previously endorsed Biden.”
