Caitlyn Jenner is calling the debate on transgender women competing in school sports āsuch a small issue.ā
During an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Jenner explained to the hosts what she would do if she were governor of California to address this issue.
āI would put together a commission. Trans women compete in the Olympics, they compete in the NCAA, but when it gets down to the high school level, thereās no guide rules, thereās no rules and regulations on how they can,ā Jenner said.
She added, āTrans women who are truly trans, who at a very young age started proper medical treatment, theyāve grown up as girls, of course they should be able to compete in girlsā sports. But, if some guy who hasnāt done any therapy, hasnāt done anything, there has to be a review board.ā
Calling it āsuch a small issue,ā Jenner added, āItās like a non-issue thatās out there and I would be surprised if thereās 30 trans athletes in the entire state.ā

During an interview with TMZ earlier this month, Jenner told the publication, āThis is a question of fairness. Thatās why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girlsā sports in school. It just isnāt fair. And we have to protect girlsā sports in our schools.ā
After the interview, Jenner tweeted, āI didnāt expect to get asked this on my Saturday morning coffee run, but Iām clear about where I stand. Itās an issue of fairness and we need to protect girlsā sports in our schools.ā
Jenner has received pushback from the transgender community. The first transgender woman to be a Democratic nominee for California governor in 2018, Christine Hallquist, told the San Francisco Chronicle, āUnfortunately, because of her background and reputation, she has become the figurehead we donāt want.ā
Hallquist added, āShe hasnāt really done anything to raise the voices of those who canāt speak for themselves.ā
