Not too much information was gleaned from former White House physician Kevin O’Connor an interview with the House Oversight Committee Wednesday morning.
The interview, regarding former President Joe Biden, took less than an hour as the physician pleaded the Fifth Amendment, Fox News reported. The interview was expected to last much longer.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) spoke to reporters after the meeting.
“I’m going to read the first two questions that were asked. ‘Were you ever told to lie about the president’s health?’ He pleaded the Fifth Amendment. He would not answer that question. The second question, ‘Did you ever believe President Biden was unfit to execute his duty?'” Comer said. “Again, President Biden’s White House physician pled the fifth. This is unprecedented, and I think that this adds more fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up.”
According to O’Connor’s lawyers, his refusal to answer questions did not mean he is guilty of anything. His lack to responses has more to do with patient-physician privilege.
The Associated Press reported that Republicans are looking into what Biden did while he was in the Oval Office. This includes the use of autopen. They claim some of Biden’s policies could be determined to be invalid if Biden was mentally incapacitated during part of his presidency.
Biden has called the claims “ridiculous and false.”
Comer said O’Connor’s refusal to testify made it “clear there was a conspiracy.”
“The American people demand transparency, but Dr. O’Connor would rather conceal the truth,” Comer said.
In several comments on X, posters felt the physician should have been more forthcoming.
